Endometriosis Relief: Advanced Minimally Invasive Treatments You Need to Know

Endometriosis Relief: Advanced Minimally Invasive Treatments You Need to Know

If you struggle with chronic pelvic pain, painful periods, or discomfort during intimacy, you know how disruptive endometriosis can be.

At the Center for Urogynecology and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery in South Miami, Florida, we’re dedicated to helping you find lasting relief. Led by double-board-certified urogynecologist Rafael J. Perez, MD, FACOG, our practice specializes in advanced minimally invasive treatments designed to target the root cause of your pain.

Getting an accurate diagnosis is faster and easier than it used to be. Doctors no longer require diagnostic surgery to identify endometriosis. Instead, we can often use high-resolution imaging like transvaginal ultrasound and MRI to spot the disease early and start your personalized treatment plan right away.

Laparoscopic excision vs. ablation: Why the method matters

When surgery is necessary to treat endometriosis, the technique Dr. Perez uses makes a difference in your long-term recovery.

Many general gynecologists perform laparoscopic ablation, which uses heat or lasers to burn away the surface of the lesions. But endometriosis often has an iceberg-like structure, meaning the visible surface is just the tip of a deeper, inflammatory growth.

Ablation leaves these deep roots intact, which frequently leads to a quick return of your pain.

To provide true relief, we perform laparoscopic excision. This advanced technique involves cutting out the entire diseased tissue. The clinical benefits of this approach are clear: Laparoscopic excision reduces the rate of ovarian endometrioma recurrence to between 5% and 17%, compared with a much higher 37% recurrence rate for those who undergo ablation.

Can oral medications provide advanced endometriosis relief?

Surgery isn’t the only path to managing your symptoms. For patients who want to delay surgery or need ongoing management, oral medications have become incredibly sophisticated.

We now offer advanced therapies like once-daily oral relugolix combination therapy, which combines a hormone blocker with a low dose of "add-back" hormones.

This treatment works by keeping your estrogen levels in a highly controlled sweet spot. It lowers estrogen enough to starve the endometriosis lesions and stop the inflammatory pain cycle, but keeps it high enough to protect your bones and prevent hot flashes.

This combination therapy achieves a 75% reduction in menstrual pain, compared with just 27% to 30% for those taking a placebo.

Personalized care for your long-term wellness

Whether we recommend advanced medical management or a minimally invasive procedure like da Vinci surgery, our goal is to tailor a plan for your body and lifestyle. Endometriosis is a chronic condition, and managing it successfully requires a comprehensive, long-term approach.

We work closely with you to protect your fertility, eliminate your pain, and restore your quality of life.

If you’re ready to take control of your health and explore advanced options for endometriosis relief, we’re here to help. Please schedule a consultation with our team in South Miami, Florida, today to begin your journey toward healing.
